So some of you have sugar cravings. Tell me, what kind of sugar are you craving? Is it baked? Is chocolate looking at you funny?
Talk to me.

I definitely have a sweet tooth. I've had periods where I've forgone sugar for a while and then found it easier to say "no thanks" once I'm used to not having it, but recently if it's in front of me my willpower to forgo a treat hasn't been great. I try to not have it in the house too much and have alternatives (e.g. fruit) but I find that when I want something I end up eating my alternatives and sometimes still wanting it so I end up eating it anyway... so not having it in the house is best. I do find that a small square of some good quality dark chocolate can usually do the trick. My biggest challenge is socializing. One of the reasons why I'm looking forward to this challenge is because I know I've gone without sugar before, I just need to be more disciplined and for me, to have to report what I ate will really help with that.

I naturally don't have a sugar craving, but when I am on this program, I start craving sugar. But oranges can do this trick and keep me cool.
But hey, don't get me wrong, once in awhile, like once every three months the chocolate ganache cake at Whole Foods looks at me funny. But I will have to earn it, via working out extra or doing a short run.

Ay yo girls and boys! My experience with sugar and sugar addiction.. which it totally is, is that you need to starve the sugar beast. When you feed it, even just a little bit it always wants more. There are many arguments as to what the optimal human diet is, but there is one thing very very clear across the board, added sugar apart from its natural source (not fruit, or foods that have natural sugar attached to them) is not a beneficial part of any diet. Some of you may be able to cut back and moderate sugar consumption and be totally fine, you might be one of those "sweets just aren't my thing" people and for that we all want to kill you, jk But I think the majority are not those people. This is what has worked for me and what I have heard from others on what works for them as well. You gotta starve it. If sugar is your goat, you might want to take it out of the equation for the duration of the challenge and see how you feel! In removing it, you are also removing the decision making around it, do I try and eat just one bite/piece? What if I do and I can't stop? You are setting up for negative thoughts and patterns and we want you to develop new healthy habits from this! Instead, you say to yourself this Monday, for 9 weeks I am not eating any added sugar, done, that's it. This is just what you are doing. Willpower is a limited resource and we use a heck of a lot throughout the day that we don't even realize. Don't let the cookie and chocolate take away your precious resources. Know that you might have to white knuckle through the first week or two, but hold strong and as Diane mentioned above, the want and need for it will subside. This is my goat too. It's my nemesis so I really feel you guys on this one. Been in a rut since finishing my food challenge a couple weeks ago myself. We can do this, let's support each other!

Hi guys!! In terms of cravings in general (which I totally fall victim to, but more for salty stuff), there's a lot of research that when you really want that chocolate bar, you actually want the components of what is in it because your body is definicent somehow and it manifests as a craving. This girl I went to high school with runs a great health blog. she's really into the ayurveda diet (sp?) which isn't really my thing, but she has some good insight about other stuff (she's tried out paleo and vegan and all of those big "Fad" diet lifestyles to see how they all fit and blogged about it. here is a good link to her posting about what our cravings are really telling us... the salty craving and chocolate craving advice with magnesium deficiencies I have found actually really work!! eatfeelfresh.com/what-your-craving-means-2/Also, I need some advice. I am going with my family to disney world for the next 6 days and I want desperately to keep this going!!! any insight on how to go about properly eating as healthy and clean as possible in the place most polluted with craving inducing weakness ever?

Ooh that's an awesome question. I'm going to Baltimore to spend Easter with my sister and that ritual invariably includes a lot of NOT clean indulgence. I'm already priming myself to keep on the path because it feels good in my body and especially in my head. But it will be a challenge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi Everyone! There is bowl of candy staring me in the face every day at work in the common space when I walk by it. Every Friday there is a box of munchkins. I did well earlier this week and then 10 minutes before I go home I dug in and ate tootsie rolls! What am I thinking?! At that point the rest of the day is a complete downward spiral... I think Dee is right - I need to starve the beast but there are a lot of temptations.

I like the posts about staying on the challenge while going away - should we start a forum dedicated to that? I'm going to Vegas at the end of May... :-)

Marlon, I think I tricked you...I'm actually Cindy's daughter Becca, haha. I just got back from a year abroad and signed up for the program to get myself back on track! The internet can be deceptive like that, haha.
